A Culture of Philanthropy Rooted in Service
Aldersgate Village was founded out of a deep commitment to provide compassionate care for seniors, inspired by Christian values.
It all began when a group of Christian leaders from the Kansas-Nebraska Conference of the United Methodist Church recognized the growing need for a safe, caring, and spiritually supportive place for older adults to live with dignity. In response to this calling, they came together to create a community that would serve seniors holistically—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In 1979, Aldersgate Village opened its doors in Topeka, Kansas, welcoming its first residents. Since then, it has grown into a thriving, full-service senior living community, offering a wide range of services — from independent living to skilled nursing and memory care — all while staying true to its mission of serving seniors with compassion, respect, and Christian love.
Today, Aldersgate Village continues to honor its founding purpose by providing a vibrant and supportive community where seniors can truly thrive.
A Deeply Rooted History and a Bright Future
1970s - The Vision Begins
In the early 1970s, a group of visionary leaders from the Kansas-Nebraska Conference of the United Methodist Church recognized a growing need for a faith-based senior living community in Topeka, Kansas. They envisioned a place where older adults could live in safety, dignity, and comfort — supported physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
1975 - The Foundation
In 1975, the vision began to take shape when the Conference officially committed to developing a senior living community. Planning and fundraising efforts began, fueled by the generosity and dedication of local churches, community members, and benefactors who shared a common goal: to create a caring home for seniors.
1979 - Opening Our Doors
Aldersgate Village officially opened its doors, welcoming its first residents. The community was established on a beautiful, expansive campus in Topeka, offering independent living options in a faith-centered environment. The name "Aldersgate" was inspired by the Aldersgate experience of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, symbolizing spiritual renewal and transformation.
2000s - Campus Growth
Throughout the early 2000s, Aldersgate Village continued to expand its campus to meet the changing needs of seniors in Topeka and the surrounding region. Additional independent living apartments and cottages were built, providing more options for those seeking an active, engaged lifestyle.
